Buri, the latest concept from Cape Town’s Belly Restaurant Group, is opening in the East City during the first week of August 2026. The restaurant puts a considered spin on the much-loved South African boerewors roll, combining a custom-made bun, bespoke boerewors and familiar braai flavours, a true South African classic, reworked.Located at Shop 1, 99 Harrington Street, Buri draws on the nostalgic appeal of the boerie roll: boerewors served in a soft white roll with fried onions, smoor and sauces.
The concept has been developed by Neil Swart and Anouchka Horn, the business partners behind Belly Restaurant Group, or BRG. The group also operates Cape Town restaurants including, Belly of the Beast, Galjoen, Seebamboes.
Buri continues BRG’s focus on distinctive food concepts and personal hospitality, but in a more relaxed and casual format.
The Buri boerie roll
Rather than simply reproducing the traditional version, Buri has developed each component specifically for the restaurant.
– Custom bun:A soft white roll designed to hold the boerewors and toppings while retaining the familiar comfort of a classic boerie roll.
– Bespoke boerewors: Created exclusively for Buri by Frankie Fenner Meat Merchants.
– Familiar flavours: Fried onions, smoor and sauces remain central to the experience, preserving the spirit of the South African original.
– Casual approach: The offering is intended to be generous, informal and easy to enjoy.
The result is a restaurant built around a dish associated with school fairs, rug by days, Saturday braais, roadside stops and market mornings, while giving the format a more deliberate culinary identity. The result is a restaurant built around a dish associated with school fairs, rugby days, Saturday braais, roadside stops and market mornings, while giving the format a more deliberate culinary identity.
