Nestled in the charming bay of Bekbay in the serene area of Paternoster, Gonana Guest House is situated directly on an unspoiled beach surrounded by thriving nature. Bordered by the Cape Columbine Nature Reserve, this picturesque guesthouse serves as the perfect hideaway—a place to inhale the fresh West Coast sea air while enjoying long beach walks and delectable cuisine. It’s a sanctuary of beauty and inspiration, inviting guests to reconnect with themselves.
Upon our arrival, we were warmly greeted by the onsite manager, who efficiently handled our check-in before escorting us to our room.

We were particularly impressed by Gonana’s commitment to sustainability, with significant efforts made to ensure the guesthouse operates as close to self-sufficiency as possible. Solar-powered electricity and hot water, along with rainwater collection tanks and greywater reticulation systems, support both the house and the garden. This space is not only aesthetically pleasing but also environmentally friendly.
According to the Swedish owner, Jonas Sandstorm, “supporting local initiatives is essential and represents the best way to give back meaningfully.

Decor and Amenities
The decor featured rich detail and a beautiful simplicity, with everything sourced locally. This thoughtful approach is evident in various touches throughout the guesthouse. The bathrooms are equipped with luxurious handwoven towels and organic ‘Simply Bee’ natural soaps and creams, while the beds feature soft blankets from ‘Barrydale Hand Weavers”. The emphasis on sustainability and local support distinguishes the unique charm of Gonana Guest House.

Local Attractions
Paternoster, a heritage fishing village with a population of around 2,000, is a fantastic escape for food enthusiasts eager for fresh seafood and unique dining experiences. A wide array of culinary options is available, and not far away lies the Cape Columbine Lighthouse, known as the last manned lighthouse ever constructed.

We enjoyed a peaceful swim in the sparkling pool, followed by a refreshing evening drink and dinner at Die Gaaitjie, just a short walk from the guesthouse. The local restaurants are enchanting, and the residents are warm-hearted.
The following morning, we took a dip in the sea, then dressed for a hearty breakfast at Gonana Guest House. We were treated to a spread that included fresh fruits, yogurt, pastries, cheeses, and cooked eggs, all complemented by tea and coffee, while taking in the stunning, windswept views of the Atlantic Ocean.

After breakfast, and check out we headed off to our next adventure at Wolfgat, a world-renowned restaurant award winner.
We highly recommend this dreamy seaside guesthouse for tranquil weekend escapes. For reservations at Gonana Guest House, please contact stay@gonanaguesthouse.com or call +27(0)767192538.
