Experience the Revitalized Pot Luck Club: Cape Town’s Premier Dining Destination

Revitalized and ready for summer, The Pot Luck Club redefines dining in Cape Town. A decade after pioneering small-plate dining, chef Luke Dale Roberts unveils stunning new interiors, enhancing the bold Asian-inspired flavors and breathtaking views that have made this restaurant a culinary destination.

Founded in 2012 by acclaimed chef Luke Dale Roberts, The Pot Luck Club has always blended bold Asian-inspired flavors with vibrant urban energy, all while offering breathtaking views from its perch atop the silos at The Old Biscuit Mill.

While the essence of the menu remains intact, the refreshed ambiance reflects a sophisticated evolution in style. “This update is about embellishment rather than reinvention,” says interior designer Maurice Paliaga, who spearheaded the transformation. “We aimed to infuse the restaurant with a touch more luxury while preserving everything patrons love about Pot Luck. Some elements had begun to show wear, so we focused on revitalizing, strengthening, and elevating the space.”

Chef Dale Roberts adds, “After thriving since 2012, it felt like the perfect moment to give the restaurant a lift. With summer approaching, I wanted to ensure the space received the care and attention it deserves.” He continues, “The Pot Luck Club embodies energy, adventure, and surprise. This refresh captures that spirit while introducing a more refined, luxurious feel.”

Paliaga’s design narrative features a darker, richer palette that enhances the restaurant’s character. Subtle LED lighting accentuates wall cladding and slatwork beneath the counters, while elegant patinated brass fixtures crown the surfaces. Upgraded seating now includes leather-wrapped school chairs, and the coveted banquettes have been transformed with higher backs and fluted upholstered leather, striking a perfect balance between comfort and sophistication.

The contrast between the deeper tones and lighter ash tabletops—reused, resurfaced, and segmented into striking quadrants—creates a captivating backdrop for the creative dishes crafted by Group Executive Chef Jason Kosmas. Enhanced lighting throughout the space, including under-counter LEDs and updated task lighting, contributes to a shift from utilitarian to softer, richer environments, as noted by Paliaga.

This refresh emphasizes collaboration with local artisans and suppliers, ensuring that many details are sourced within a few kilometers of the restaurant’s home in Woodstock. “We’ve maintained vital relationships from the past,” Paliaga explains. “It was crucial to reinforce those community ties while elevating the craftsmanship within the restaurant.”

While the interiors have been enhanced, they are designed to complement—not overshadow—the restaurant’s breathtaking views of Cape Town. “From the start, we were clear that we didn’t want to clutter the space. The visibility of the stunning scenery was paramount,” says Paliaga. “After the food, the view must remain the star.”

The Pot Luck Club continues to dazzle with bold flavors and innovative style. Its adventurous Asian-inspired menu and vibrant energy now harmonize beautifully with the eye-catching new interiors, ensuring that Pot Luck remains one of South Africa’s most unforgettable culinary destinations.

“Working with Maurice and the team has been a remarkable experience. They’ve successfully captured the essence of Pot Luck and enhanced it in a way that feels both fresh and familiar,” says Dale Roberts. “The Pot Luck Club has always evolved, whether through its dishes or its ambiance. This revitalization marks the next exciting chapter in that journey.”
